Desserts Recipes - Orange Bundt Cake Recipe

Ingredients

Serves 8

  • 225g/8oz butter (plus extra for greasing)

  • 450g/1lb sugar

  • 5 eggs

  • 3 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 700g/1 1/2lb plain flour (sifted, plus extra for dusting)

  • 175ml/6fl oz fresh orange juice

  • Grated zest of 1 orange

For the glaze:

  • 225g/8oz butter (melted)

  • 150g/5oz sugar

  • 75ml/3fl oz bourbon whiskey


Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas mark 4. Grease a 20cm/8in tin with butter and dust with flour.

  2. Cream the butter until fluffy. Beat in the sugar until light. Beat in the eggs, one at a time.

  3. Sift the baking powder, salt and flour together and add to the creamed mix alternately with the orange juice.

  4. Add the grated orange zest. Pour into the prepared tin and bake for 1 hour.  

  5. For the glaze, heat the butter and sugar until all the sugar is dissolved. Add the bourbon, then pour the glaze over the hot cake. Leave in the tin to cool.
